Description:
Use this activity to practice sound-blending skills with students. Laminate and cut out the pictures for the words and tokens. Start with two-sound words. Place between 1 and 3 2-sound picture cards on the table. Tell the student you are going to play a game where you say a word slowly, only one sound at a time. Then, say one of the words -- e.g. "sss eeee" for "see." Point to the picture for the word you just said. "I said 'see'! But I said it really slowly, just one sound at a time. Ssss eee. " Now give the student a chance to guess. E.g. "k eee. What word was that?" Increase the difficulty by adding more picture cards for the student to guess from. Then, start working on words with more sounds. Finally, get the student to say words one-sound at a time, using the tokens as support. Model placing one token on the table for each sound in a word, and then give the student a chance to try it.
